A portable shotcrete machine operates by transferring liquid concrete from a hopper through a system of pipes and hoses to the desired location using high-pressure hydraulics.
First, freshly mixed concrete is poured into the hopper, where an agitator keeps it moving to prevent segregation while a metal grate filters out large aggregates. Inside the pump, two hydraulic cylinders work in tandem-one piston pulls concrete from the hopper while the other pushes it into the pipeline.
A swing valve (S-valve) or rock valve alternates the flow direction between the pistons, ensuring a continuous pumping cycle. The concrete is then propelled through steel or flexible hoses, allowing it to travel horizontally over long distances or vertically for high-rise construction. At the pour site, workers guide the concrete into formwork, foundations, or structural elements with precision.
Once the job is complete, the pump system is flushed with water and cleaning balls to prevent blockages and ensure smooth operation for future use. This efficient process allows stationary concrete pumps to deliver concrete quickly, accurately, and safely, making them ideal for large-scale projects such as tunnels, skyscrapers, and infrastructure developments.
